Recent Disasters in Asia

Two back-to-back disasters – Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar and a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in China’s Sichuan Province – have focused the world’s attention on Asia while weather, politics, and infrastructure damage has hindered response efforts.

To help inform those interested in the events, the Natural Hazards Center is providing this list of relevant Quick Response Research reports and Web resources to direct readers to research and more information on earthquakes, cyclones, hurricanes, and landslides. A listing of disaster relief organizations will help readers determine how to help.

Quick Response Reports

With funds contributed by the National Science Foundation, the Natural Hazards Center Quick Response program offers social scientists small grants to travel to the site of a disaster soon after it occurs to gather valuable information concerning immediate impact and response. The findings of these studies cover a broad range of disasters - both natural and human-caused - in diverse segments affecting all types of human communities.
