The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Volcano Hazards Program page addresses the whole range of USGS programs to understand volcanoes and mitigate volcanic hazards. The site includes sections on volcano hazards, active U.S. volcanoes, reducing volcano risks, resources (including several complete texts, as well as catalogs of many other online, print, and other media resources), and USGS work overseas.   The Alaska Volcano Observatory site offers information about aviation and volcanic ash hazards and other volcanic risks, with sections covering highlights of past eruptions, current events, videos available from the center, and lots of photos and hypertext links to other volcano Web sites.

  The Cascades Volcano Observatory (CVO) site includes sections covering news and current events, including a Mount St. Helens update; information about CVO programs and research; background information about the volcanoes of the Pacific Northwest; information on the associated hazards, with reports, maps, graphics, charts, and tables; a photo archive; a list of publications available on-line; information and materials to support educational programs; and much other volcano information.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) assessment of the nation’s volcano monitoring needs based on a comprehensive and systematic review of the 169 geologically active U.S. volcanoes, An Assessment of Volcanic Threat and Monitoring Capabilities in the United States: Framework for a National Volcano Early Warning System (2005, 62 pp.), ranks U.S. volcanoes that pose a threat to human lives, property, and aviation safety and discusses monitoring gaps at each volcano. This report provides a framework for the implementation of the National Volcano Early Warning System.

The Electronic Volcano page bills itself as "a window into the world of information on active volcanoes." The site is a source of many materials on active volcanoes worldwide - such as maps, photographs, and full texts of dissertations. It offers introductory material in Chinese, German, Spanish, Italian, French, and Russian, and then provides guides to catalogs of active volcanoes and volcano literature. The Electronic Volcano also includes lists of volcanic observatories and institutions, abstracts and excerpts from theses related to active volcanism, descriptions of volcanic hazards, a section on current events and research, and a volcano name and country index.
