Boulder Creek Floodplain Field Trip

The Natural Hazards Workshop is again offering an expert-led floodplain tour along the beautiful Boulder Creek Path. Participants will catch a bus outside of the Omni Interlocken Resort in Broomfield at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, and travel to Boulder to begin the tour. Boulder Creek has been the site of numerous and devastating floods. We will make frequent stops along Boulder Creek to survey the floodplain and learn about some of the development decisions that have either increased or reduced the community’s vulnerability to floods since the last “big one” in 1894.

The walking tour will last a little longer than one hour and proceed at a leisurely pace. Following the tour, you’ll be on your own to eat lunch in historic downtown Boulder surrounded by the spectacular Flatirons. Enjoy shopping, dining, and entertainment on Pearl Street, a delightful five-block outdoor pedestrian mall. Visit the Boulder Dushanbe Tea House close to Boulder Creek or any of the other 100-plus restaurants near downtown. Following lunch, pick up a souvenir or be entertained by the many street performers. Participants will have more than two hours to explore before returning to the bus at 3:00 p.m.
