Gilbert White Memorial Ground Breaking

Sun. 8:00 p.m., Boulder Creek Path at Broadway

Join us for the long-awaited ground breaking of the Gilbert F. White Memorial Flood Level Marker. The marker, designed by White's daughter Mary White and artist Christian Muller, is a practical and educational tribute to White's contributions to our understanding of flood hazards. The marker will be made of sculpted granite and recycled jade float glass, which was chosen for the top part of the marker because it reflects light and movement, like water. Solar powered LED lights will illuminate the core of the glass obelisk.

The flood marker's location on the Boulder Creek Path at Broadway Street is the nexus of a major transportation corridor and Boulder's major floodway—and where the greatest Boulder flood damage will occur. This high-traffic area provides an excellent opportunity to educate large numbers of people. Donations to defray the cost of the marker are still being accepted. To contribute, visit the Gilbert F. White Memorial fund Web site.
