Plenary: It's Just Beginning: Social Impacts of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Technological Disasters to Come
Tue. 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Interlocken A/B
The Deepwater Horizon oil platform explosion and the massive oil spill that followed rank among the most extreme environmental disasters ever to strike the United States. Research on earlier events indicates that the social and cultural impacts will continue long after the oil stops flowing. Panelists will provide up-to-date information on the effects of the spill and put the Deepwater Horizon event into the broader context of other oil spills and major technological disasters, both past and future.
