Doug BauschDoug Bausch

Doug Bausch is the earthquake program manager and senior physical scientist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region VIII office. He assists states and communities in developing risk assessments for all-hazard mitigation, recovery, and preparedness planning.

This includes the incorporation of the FEMA HAZUS loss estimation tool with U.S. Geological Survey ShakeMap products, as well as implementing the FEMA risk-based approach to a broad range of programs, including grants, mapping, and disaster recovery. Bausch is working closely with federal, state, and local partners in implementing the National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program and supporting national response operations. He has provided GIS, remote sensing, and modeling expertise during hurricane and flood seasons from 2004 to 2009.

Before joining FEMA, Bausch was a research associate at Northern Arizona University and a consulting engineering geologist with a Southern California firm. His research and consulting efforts included preparing general plans for local governments that addressed disaster recovery, seismic safety, land use, and code adoption.

Bausch earned a master’s degree in geology at Northern Arizona University. He is an experienced HAZUS user and one of the few certified instructors nationwide.
