Patricia Romero Lankao is a social scientist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Research Applications Laboratory. Her research focuses on the intersections between urban development and the environment, including the carbon cycle, the climate system and the water cycle. She studies issues of how urban development impacts the environment; what societal factors explain cities' vulnerability/resilience to heat waves; atmospheric pollution; water scarcity and pollution, among other hazards; and how particular cities attempt to meet the challenges of reducing emissions while improving their capacity to cope with environmental impacts.

Romero Lankao earned her B.S. and M.Sc.in sociology from the Autonomous National University of Mexico, a Ph.D in regional studies and management from the Autonomous Metropolitan University and a second Ph.D. in agricultural sciences from the University of Bonn.
