Nancy Schweda Nicholson is a professor of linguistics and cognitive science with a joint appointment in the Legal Studies Program at the University of Delaware. She is widely published in the areas of interpreting theory and practice, interpreter training, and language planning/policy development for court interpreter services, both in the United States and abroad.

She was appointed to the Federal Court Interpreters Advisory Board by the late Honorable William H. Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court. She is a member of the Committee on Court Interpreters and Legal Translation of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs, the international umbrella organization for more than 100 national professional translation and interpreting associations. She has served as a consultant and trainer for the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Executive Office for Immigration Review, among other agencies.
She also addressed the Supreme Court of Korea on court interpreting in the United States.

In addition to her research on the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the International Criminal Court, Nicholson is currently studying proposed European Union legislation that would require comparable language services in criminal matters throughout the 27 Member States.
