Rich Salkowe
Rich Salkowe is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Geography at the University of South Florida. His dissertation research examines equity in the implementation of presidential disaster declarations and denials under the Stafford Act and comparative biopsychosocial recovery in disaster declared and denied communities.
Salkowe has co-authored peer-reviewed publications and pending publications pertaining to presidential disaster declarations and denials, historical disaster experiences, government roles and responsibilities in disaster behavioral health response, health disparities, and biodiversity and human health impacts. He recently presented at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Symposium on the Science of Disproportionate Environmental Health Impacts on natural disasters and stress-related disease outcomes.
Before returning to the academic environment, Richard practiced clinical medicine as a podiatric physician and surgeon for 26 years and presently serves on the Florida Department of Health Community Preparedness Target Capability Task Force, the Florida Crisis Consortium and as a medical officer for Region IV-Florida State Disaster Medical Response Team.
