Gabriela Hoberman
Gabriela Hoberman is a research associate and team leader of the Disaster Risk Reduction Program at Florida International University. A political scientist who has extensively worked on comparative politics in Latin American and Caribbean countries, Hoberman’s work focuses on democratic transitions, governance, accountability, and political economy.
Her early work looked at race, ethnicity, and migration patterns, with a specific emphasis on developing countries like Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Dominican Republic, and Haiti. Her current research is on disaster risk reduction, political economy of disasters, governance, and accountability. Hoberman has presented extensively at international and national conferences as well as contributed papers and literature reviews to peer-reviewed academic journals. In 2010, she was awarded a Quick Response Grant from the Natural Hazards Center to do field research in Chile following the February 2010 earthquake and tsunami.
