Trent Thompson

Trent Thompson works for the Department of Defense as a civilian at U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) in Colorado Springs. He works in the Interagency Coordination Directorate as an analyst in the Private Sector/Nongovernmental Organizations Office with the objective of cooperating with private sector and NGO stakeholders to enhance understanding, unity of effort, and capacity in mitigating the effects of domestic or foreign disasters.

Before working at USNORTHCOM, Thompson was detailed to the Department of State in the Secretary’s Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization from the U.S. Agency for International Development. He was instrumental in establishing an interagency planning process for reconstruction and stabilization engagements overseas.

From 2006-2009, he was a special assistant to the USAID administrator and director of U.S. Foreign Assistance. He served as subject matter specialist for private sector partnerships, South and Central Asia, democracy, conflict and humanitarian assistance programs.

From 2003-2006, Thompson spent seven months in Afghanistan as USAID’s field program officer at the civil-military Provincial Reconstruction Team in Jalalabad. He managed localized infrastructure and capacity building projects intended to stabilize the region and strengthen the reach of the central government. He also worked on USAID’s Afghanistan desk in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for budget issues, civil-military affairs, security reform, infrastructure and counter-narcotics programs.

Prior to his time at USAID, Trent worked for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and U.S. Pacific Command.
