Keynote: Kris Ludwig

Gary MachlisKris Ludwig is an American Association for the Advancement of Science Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S. Geological Survey where her primary responsibility is to support the Department of the Interior Strategic Sciences Group. Before joining the USGS in 2012, Ludwig analyzed policy surrounding large scale research infrastructure at the National Science Foundation as an AAAS Fellow.

Ludwig has had a long-standing interest in public outreach and education: she has managed science communications for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program, an international geoscience research program, and has co-hosted over 50 live television broadcasts for the JASON Project science education program.  Her research expertise includes investigating geological and physical processes near the seafloor and characterizing novel life forms in the deep sea. Ludwig holds a PhD in Oceanography from the University of Washington and a bachelor's in Earth Systems from Stanford University. She is a member of AAAS, the American Geophysical Union, and the Earth Science Women’s Network.
