Hansen joined ASPR in September 2008 and currently serves as a Senior Advisor to the Director of National Healthcare Preparedness Programs, leading the NHPP portfolio for pediatrics, behavioral health and at risk individuals. Hansen has developed policies and plans regarding state and local emergency preparedness across ASPR, integrating the Federal response into state and local planning efforts, leading and serving on interagency workgroups, and providing evaluation services and technical assistance to improve healthcare preparedness programs. Her Federal experience includes serving as a Special Advisor on Suicide Prevention with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Hansen came to SAMHSA in January 2005 as an American Academy for the Advancement of Sciences Fellow and served as Deputy Incident Commander of the SAMHSA Emergency Response Center in response to Hurricane Katrina.

For 18 years, Hansen developed and ran her own business as a Clinical Psychologist in Portland, Oregon, specializing in evaluation and treatment for children, adolescents, families, adults and couples as well as consulting nationally and internationally on Solution Focused Therapy and disaster response. During her career, Hansen has worked at a group home, rural and urban community mental health centers, psychiatric hospitals, and K-12 schools. She received her doctorate from the University of Arkansas and her bachelor’s degree from Brown University.
