Stephanie Madden is a researcher and project coordinator for the Training in Risk and Crisis Communication (TRACC) project at START funded by the Department of Homeland Security's Resilient Systems Division. She coordinates all portions of the project and conducts in-depth research into current risk communication training programs in an effort to develop more effective risk communication trainings for public sector communicators. Additionally, she provides research support for START's Comprehensive Testing of Imminent Threat Public Messages for Mobile Devices project, which seeks to provide research-based messaging guidance for practitioners. Prior to working at START, Ms. Madden completed her M.A. in communication from the University of Maryland, College Park where her work focused on how nonprofit organizations use new media to recruit and engage members in advocacy work. She also holds a B.A. in communication studies from Vanderbilt University. She will begin the Ph.D. program in communication at the University of Maryland, College Park in August 2013.
