Sara McBride is a communication practitioner and researcher in the areas of risk communication, disaster communication, public education, community engagement and emergency response. She has worked extensively as a disaster communication specialist in New Zealand and the Pacific, including as Advocacy and Communications Advisor for World Vision in the Solomon Islands, and Communications Officer at the Canterbury Civil Defence and Emergency Management Group both before and after the Christchurch/Canterbury earthquake sequence. Sara is currently a Massey PhD scholar, with her project funded by the United States Geological Survey to identify lessons from the Christchurch earthquake that can be applied to improve preparedness public information and communication campaigns in similar areas in the USA.
