Nancy Mock is Co-Director of Tulane University’s Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy. She formerly directed Tulane’s Center for Research on Women and the University’s interdisciplinary international health program. She has extensive research and evaluation experience in the areas of food security and nutrition information/analysis, disaster resilience, vulnerability, emergency needs assessment and early warning systems. She serves as a senior consultant/advisor to the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Program, numerous non-profit organizations as well as participated in many expert advisory groups and review panels in these areas. She has conducted funded research supported by USAID, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Centers for Disease Control, the World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization, DFID, World Vision International among others. Mock has more than 30 years of professional experience in international humanitarian and development work. She has worked in more than 30 countries. She also founded a non-profit organization to enable students and faculty to engage in response and recovery activities after the Hurricane Katrina event. She has authored/co-authored over 50 peer reviewed/refereed publications and numerous technical reports.

Last year she completed research on the effects of the Haitian Earthquake humanitarian response on disaster resilience of households. She is conducting research on disaster resilience in Sub-Saharan Africa, utilizing novel information tools and strategies. She is actively engaged in capacity building strategies for the higher education sector in low income countries utilizing new information/community technology tools. She received a doctorate in public health from Tulane University and an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Yale University.
