CDR Melissa Ann Morrison serves as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Career Epidemiology Field Officer (CEFO) assigned to the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) in Montgomery Alabama. After 12 years at CDC headquarters in Atlanta, LCDR Melissa Morrison began her current assignment as a CEFO in Alabama in May 2009, during the second week of the influenza H1N1 response. During that response, she worked with the ADPH Division of Epidemiology, Bureau of Clinical Labs and Center of Emergency Preparedness and served as a liaison to CDC. She has been involved in several joint Federal and ADPH public health emergency responses, including investigation of health impacts of an extended weather-related water shortage, the Alabama tornado outbreak in April 2011, investigation of potential patient exposure to strontium, and assessment of community exposure to mercaptan. In the public health response to the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill, she assisted with development of surveillance for acute health effects, provided consultation on data analysis and integration with the Unified Command structure, and led three annual assessments of community health in the impacted areas.

LCDR Morrison received her Bachelor of Science in biology with specialization in microbiology from the University of West Florida. She received her Master of Public Health in epidemiology from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University.
