Mike Smith is a professional speaker, author, innovator and the Senior VP of AccuWeather Enterprise Solutions. Mike is a consulting meteorologist and a genuine atmospheric scientist who has won every major award from the American Meteorological Society and has been awarded 19 US and foreign patents. Mike has been on CBS Nightly News, Fox News, BBC World News, The History Channel, The Discovery Channel and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The New York Times, USA Today, The Houston Chronicle and Rolling Stone Magazine.

Mike’s passion for weather started as a child when the Ruskin Heights tornado destroyed his kindergarten classroom. He attended OU and had a successful career in television meteorology for over 23 years. Mike is the founder of WeatherData and has written two books, WARNINGS: The True Story of How Science Tamed the Weather about some of the most massive storms of our lifetime and When The Sirens Were Silent about the deadly Joplin tornado that claimed 161 lives. Together, Mike and his friend and mentor, the late Dr. Ted Fujita, make everyone who flies today much safer with their discovery of the microburst that lead to solving the crashes of jumbo jets in the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s. Mike’s passion is saving lives and he is married with three grown children and two children-in-law. Mike and his wife Kathleen will be first time grandparents this fall.
