Michele Steinberg is the Firewise Communities Program manager for the National Fire Protection Association in Quincy, Massachusetts, where she has worked since 2002. She oversees the national Firewise Communities/USA Recognition Program, which reaches more than a million residents of wildfire-prone communities around the nation. Steinberg has 20+ years of experience in the areas of natural hazards and land use planning, and disaster safety marketing and outreach. Prior to her work at NFPA, Steinberg held positions at the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management, Flood Hazard Program. She is the author of numerous articles and technical documents on disaster safety and mitigation planning. Michele earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Brandeis University and her master’s degree in urban planning from Boston University.
