Haibo Zhang

Zhang Haibo is a core faculty of the Research Center of Social Risk and Public Crisis (RCSRPC) and an associate professor at School of Government, Nanjing University, China. He also serves as the Deputy Director of RCSRPC and the team leader of the Cross-disciplinary Research Group on Conflict and Decision at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Sciences (IAS), Nanjing University. Currently, he is a visiting scholar at the Disaster Management Center, University of Pittsburgh. He got his B.A in economics, M.A in Sociology, and PhD in Public Policy at Nanjing University, China. His Researches focus on disaster and emergency management, and social conflict and collective behavior in the context of China.

He is conducting a two year’s visiting program in the United States, focusing and disaster research and comparison between China and the United States. Currently, He is working with Prof. Louise Comfort on the knowledge commons of disaster management. During his stay, He also will work on three projects: (1) the Organizational Network in the Response System of the Ya’an Earthquake in 2013 in China; (2) Crisis Communication in an Era of Social Media in Context of China: A Comparative Case Study on the Wenzhou High Speed Train Crash in 2011 and the Jiaoji Railway Accident in 2008; (3) Social Media and Disaster: A Comparison among the Ya’an Earthquake, the H7N9 Pandemic, and the Wenzhou High Speed Train Crash.
