Qiang (Braven) Zhang, Associate Dean and Professor of School of Social Development and Public Policy at Beijing Normal University and a Harvard Yenching Visiting Scholar (2011-2012). He directs the Policy Research Center at Academy of Disaster Reduction & Emergency Management jointly supported by Ministry of Civil Affairs and Ministry of Education of China. Qiang also serves as the Founder and Assistant President of China Chapter of TIEMS (The International Emergency Management Society); is the founder and serves on the Board of Director of The Engine (a social innovation initiative) at Harvard Innovation Lab, Harvard University; and currently serves as the Coordinator of the Platform for Chinese NGOs ’ Joint Response to 4.20 Earthquake.Qiang has spent over ten years in government. He most recently served as an independent consultant for UNDP, UNESCO and UNV. His research interests involve disaster reduction and crisis management, policy process , volunteering, and social Innovation. His recent publications include A Study on NGOs’ Participation in the Post-disaster Reconstruction for the Wenchuan Earthquake (Zhang Qiang, Yu Xiaomin, Peking University Press, 2009).
