Mary Queen Of Vietnam Community Development Corporation

Tap Bui serves as the Deputy Director at MQVN Community Development Corporation. In her role, Tap manages the daily operations of the organization and provides leadership and direction for the staff. In light of the Deepwater Horizon BP oil drilling disaster, Tap has organized the community to participate in community meetings and forums in an effort to keep them updated and educated on oil disaster-related news and events. Her organizing efforts have lead to successful and effective self-empowerment and social justice campaigns. Tap also supervised the Spirit of Hope Family Stabilization program, which helps to sustain and stabilize households affected by the oil drilling disaster. Her health outreach efforts include organizing focus groups and educating the community members in diabetes, hypertension and mental health, in collaboration with Tulane University School of Medicine and Tulane School of Public Health. She graduated from Louisiana State University and received a bachelor’s in Health Sciences. Tap is certified as a lay health worker and Vietnamese medical interpreter.
