Human-Centered Data for Resilience: Perspectives From Japan and the United States

Tuesday, July 13, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT

Japan and the United States face similar disaster risks, and disaster research communities in both nations strive to conduct research to improve policies and practices for risk reduction. Social and economic data is central to much of this work and to ensuring that global disaster reduction efforts such as the United Nations’ Sendai Framework and Sustainable Development Goals are met. In this session, researchers will share important lessons about data types and data management approaches that have yielded breakthroughs in human-centered resilience research. They will also discuss forthcoming challenges and opportunities. Later this year, the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) will hold follow-on conversations related to this topic. Audience input will be invited during this session to help focus future dialogues.
