The need to support the mental health and self-care of those who respond to disasters has been long recognized, but COVID-19 highlights these concerns more than ever. The pandemic has created a new brand of disaster worker—those who are required to serve the public while facing risk of exposure to coronavirus. Panelists will discuss the emotional impacts of a lengthy, ongoing disaster, why we need to teach and promote self-care, and how to provide environments where workers feel safe and supported.
