Animal Inclusive Approaches to Disaster Response
Networking Roundtable
Sunday, June 14, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken D
Disaster research, practice, and policy are generally focused on the well-being of humans, but we share our planet with wildlife, livestock, and pets. This matters for countless reasons, including that human bonds with animals significantly shape people's risk perceptions and behaviors during disasters. This roundtable is advocating for a new animal-inclusive coalition, which is urgently needed to bring together emergency management professionals, veterinarians, farmers, wildlife specialists, researchers, and others concerned with animal and human welfare in disasters. Attendees will be encouraged to explore potential interventions in emergency planning, response, evacuation, and sheltering to advance more comprehensive, all-species resilience.
