Rooted in People and Place: Lessons From Successful Disaster Nonprofits

Concurrent Session
Tuesday, June 16, 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken A

A disaster nonprofit can be a hub for communities, scholars, practitioners, and government agencies to come together. In response to varied and complex hazards, they can offer responsive and sustained impact. This session will explore the intricacies of creating and growing a disaster nonprofit, drawing on the success of Livelihoods Knowledge Exchange Network (LiKEN) and the Lowlander Center, organizations dedicated to advancing holistic community resilience in Appalachia and the Gulf Region, respectively. Panelists, including founders and senior leadership, will discuss their missions and their efforts to mobilize diverse partnerships for knowledge generation, critical resource sharing, and unified efforts to reduce harm and strengthen resilience.
