Shaping Federal Interventions for Future Coastal Flood Hazards
Listening Session
Tuesday, June 16, 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. MDT
Location: Interlocken D
As sea levels rise, extreme weather, storm surge, and routine high tides will bring more flooding and associated coastal impacts, like erosion and landscape change, to coastal communities across the United States. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and U. S. Geological Survey (USGS), along with other federal partners, are working to build consensus on the science of sea level rise and coastal inundation, with the goal of translating that knowledge into practical solutions for preparedness, mitigation, and adaptation related to coastal flood hazards. This listening session invites attendees from all disciplines to learn more about these efforts by directly engaging in discussion on critical practitioner needs with federal scientists, tool developers, and outreach specialists from NOAA and USGS. This session will help shape the next generation of federal coastal hazard research, tools, and services.
