Transpacific Coalitions: Strengthening U.S.-Japan Partnerships in Disaster Science
Monday, June 15, 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. MDT
Location: Ponderosa
Complementary expertise and resources in the U.S. and Japan make for strong cross-national partnerships to advance hazards research and applications. In this session, which attendees are asked to bring their own lunch to, partners from the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) will share insights from successful collaborations between universities and government agencies across the Pacific Ocean. Speakers will share findings from joint research projects for human-centered data utilization. They will consider the opportunities and challenges of leveraging artificial intelligence and big data for disaster resilience, while keeping people at the center. They’ll also engage the audience in discussing processes by which research findings are implemented into policy and practice that benefit both countries.
