Rethinking How We Characterize and Communicate Risk
Thursday, 1:30-3:00 p.m., Pine
Probabilistic analysis of risk dominates our current approach to hazard preparedness and mitigation. But dwelling on probability and likelihood may actually be counterproductive. This session will examine alternate ways to characterize and analyze risk (e.g., “possibilistic” analysis) and will discuss methods of effectively communicating this risk and uncertainty, especially in the context of climate change.
