Leadership and Professionalization in Emergency Management

Friday, 4:00-5:30 p.m., Pine

While effective leadership is recognized as critical in a wide variety of fields—in both public and private sectors—there is little research and material available that directly relates this to emergency management. As emergency management advances as a profession, what does leadership in emergency management mean and what is the role of education in producing emergency management leaders? Can training and education teach leadership? This session will explore theories of professionalization and leadership and their impacts on emergency management.
