Julia Beckett’s research interests include emergency management, public law, and public budgeting and finance. She is conducting grant-funded research on emergency management and hand hygiene with Dr. Nancy Grant. They are also investigating the operational law aspects of the Ohio EMA response to Swine Flu through a Natural Hazards Center Quick Response Grant.

Beckett earned her Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis in 1984 and her PhD in Public Administration from the Graduate School of Public Affairs, University of Colorado at Denver in 1995. She is an associate professor in the Department of Public Administration at The University of Akron, where she has taught 12 years. Beckett’s publications include the ASPA Classics volume Public Administration and Law, which she co-edited. Her work has appeared in Public Administration Review, the American Review of Public Administration, and Public Budgeting, Accounting and Financial Management.
