Retired Lieutenant Colonel Fred Boettcher has served in the military for more than 31 years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1978 and served active duty as a Behavioral Science Specialist (91G) in the 4th Medical Battalion in Fort Carson, Colorado. He received a Direct Commission in 1986 in combat arms and transferred to the Medical Services branch in 1989.
Boettcher served in a variety of assignments including combat support hospital, battalion staff officer, brigade staff officer, executive officer to the Army Reserve Director of Force Management, and his previous assignment as the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Force Management Officer for the Chief of the Army Reserve at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. His most recent assignment was as the National Disaster Medical Systems Area coordinating officer for the Colorado Region in Fort Carson, Colorado. He was deployed for Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and humanitarian missions to Latin America.
Boettcher retired from active duty 2009 and accepted a position as area emergency manager with Veteran’s Affairs in May. Boettcher provides emergency management regional support to the Denver Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center and all of the Eastern Colorado Healthcare System, including Wyoming and Montana.   

Fred Boettcher graduated with a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master’s degree in business from the University of Colorado. His military education includes the command and general staff officer course, combined arms services staff school, logistics executive development course, Army Force Management College, and the National Defense University joint operations course.
