Climate Change and Water Resources

Shifting precipitation patterns. Loss of snowpack. Increased drought. Changing runoff patterns. All of these phenomena and more will be profoundly affected by climate change. The warming globe poses daunting challenges to the sustainability of the nation’s drinking water and wastewater capacity. This session explores approaches that the water sector can use to plan for an uncertain climate future. By applying emergency management principles and sustainable practices to the water sector’s response to climate change, utilities will be able to assess risk, determine vulnerability, evaluate consequences, develop adaptation and mitigation strategies, then take action to strengthen their critical infrastructure.
