Assessing the Role and Performance of Voluntary Nonprofits in Disaster Relief and Recovery
Mon. 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Interlocken C
This session looks at the role of nonprofit organizations in managing disaster relief and recovery in a particular community. Presenters from a mix of disciplines (geography, political science, and public administration) examine a mix of interesting topics—nongovernmental organization work in Haiti, nonprofit work in remote Alaska, the role played by nonprofit groups in assisting evacuees with functional needs, and a review of the work of NVOAD’s member organizations. The session seeks to encourage a discussion of recent empirical findings about the scope and impact of the role of nonprofits.
