Evelio Astray-Caneda’s research focuses on how land use planning can be used for natural hazard mitigation, particularly in relation to hurricanes and floods. Currently, he is conducting research with coastal Florida governments to determine what factors might contribute to the quality of hazard mitigation elements in state-mandated comprehensive plans. Astray-Caneda is a PhD candidate in the Public Management program at Florida International University. In addition to natural hazards, Astray-Caneda has a strong research interest in public policies affecting LGBTQ persons.

Astray-Caneda is an academic-practitioner and a senior consultant at Deloitte Consulting LLP, where he focuses on public sector issues including child welfare, integrated eligibility, and call centers.
