Eric Carbone is chief of the Applied Science and Evaluation Branch, Division of State and Local Readiness, Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response at CDC. In his current role, he leads efforts to strengthen public health preparedness, response and recovery through interdisciplinary science and evaluation.

Carbone has served in a variety of positions in the public and private sectors in the past 18 years. Before joining the CDC, he served as director of the Psychological Health Clinical Standards of Care Directorate at the Defense Centers of Excellence for Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury. In that role, he was responsible for several lines of business, including translation of science to practice, development of clinical guidelines and tools, program evaluation, and development of joint Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs strategies for standardized quality and outcome measures in psychological health and readiness. His directorate also played a primary role in Department of Defense projects on determination of violence risk factors and mitigation strategies following the Ft. Hood mass shooting in 2009.

Previously, Carbone launched and managed the organizational development and performance management consulting practice for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management and served as the lead human capital strategist for the reimbursable services division. He has also worked as a clinical psychologist and mental health programs administrator with the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as a private sector consultant, conducting psychological assessment for leadership development and organizational research in Fortune 500 companies.
