Nora Jagielo is a senior in the Disaster Risk Reduction program in the Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University. Her favorite classes while attending Western have been Disaster Risk Reduction Studio and Global Health. She is also an intern with Whatcom Unified Emergency Management. She is assisting in an emergency preparedness campaign in Bellingham, Washington. This has involved developing an elementary school curriculum that addresses hazard awareness and a proactive position of readiness. As a Pacific Northwest native, she is no stranger to natural hazards. She experienced an earthquake at age eight while attending school and has been fascinated by natural phenomena all of her life. In her spare time she enjoys hiking, camping, tennis, soccer, painting, and reading. After graduation, she plans to pursue a master’s degree at University of Colorado at Boulder in Sociology.
