Larry Larson, one of the nation's foremost experts on flood hazards and water resources management, is the Executive Director of the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), a national professional non-profit with 14,000 members and 33 Chapters. Larson coordinates national flood and water resources policy development and advancement, oversees the Association's activities and communication with state and federal agencies and other policy groups and organizations.

Larson's more than 50-year career has been devoted to flood hazard and water resources management. He is the co-developer of ASFPM's No Adverse Impact approach to community development and has authored numerous white papers and articles. He frequently provides expert testimony to Congress and speaks to scores of policy makers, floodplain managers and related groups, both nationally and abroad.

For decades, Larson has been a leader in developing the nation's policy on the wise and sustainable use of floodplains. Before joining ASFPM, he spent 30 years with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources managing flood loss reduction, dam safety, wetlands, and other programs, and 5 years with California DWR on design and construction of large dams, aqueducts and other water projects. Larson holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin and is a registered professional engineer in Wisconsin and California.
