Laurie Pearce has lived in the District of North Vancouver since 1985 and is a part-time associate faculty member at Royal Roads University, the British Columbia Institute of Technology, and the Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC). She has recently been appointed to the first research chair at JIBC and is currently a principal investigator and co-investigator on two major research projects supported by the Centre for Security Science.

Pearce also contributes to the not-for-profit sector and is on the board of the Emergency Preparedness for Industry and Commerce Council of British Columbia; sits on the Disaster Psychosocial Council of British Columbia; is a member of the Canadian Risk and Hazards Network and the British Columbia Disaster Psychosocial Services Team; and is an active member of the Woodlands, Sunshine and Cascades Ratepayers Society. She was recently elected to Canada's Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction Advisory Committee and serves as co-chair for the Canadian Resilient Communities Working Group.

In 2010, Pearce was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in disaster and emergency management by the Emergency Preparedness Conference and Pacific Northwest Preparedness Society. She has volunteered for the past seven years on a project with the Canadian International Development Agency and the Institute of Global Health Studies at the University of British Columbia.
