Overcoming Barriers to Engaging Climate Change in Research and Practice
Friday, 4:00-5:30 p.m., Interlocken C
It is widely accepted that climate change will significantly increase the frequency and severity of natural disasters. Yet considerable barriers remain as policy makers, emergency managers, and government officials attempt to address the negative impacts of climate change through the implementation of various mitigation programs. Institutional and practical constraints are also seen in academia, where there is a disconnect between funding for research on the social dimensions of climate change and technical, physical science work. This panel will highlight practical strategies for overcoming these institutional barriers.
