Hsueh-Cheng Chou
Hsueh-Cheng Chou is an associate professor of geography at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) and deputy division head of the Information Division of the National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR). He specializes in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), specifically designing information architecture of complex systems. He is supervising the development of Safe Taiwan Information System at NCDR. He is also heavily involved in building the National Geographic Information System for Taiwan, which coordinates GIS development in government agencies.
As faculty in NTNU, Chou is interested in applying information technology in
K-12 education. He helps to integrate GIS in national high school curriculums
and assists schools setting up GIS labs and developing teaching modules.
Chou studied GIS at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He participated in some of the earliest environment research projects in Taiwan, including the first Environmental Impact Assessment and the resources survey for creating national parks. These experiences have helped him communicate with experts from various domains and designing information systems for them.
