Getting the Public to Prevent and Plan for Disasters
Mon. 4:00-5:30 p.m., Interlocken C
What is the public’s role in disaster mitigation and preparedness? Though there have been repeated calls to better use the public as an asset in all phases of the disaster cycle, there is no consensus about how best to do this. Panelists in this session will discuss lessons learned in trying to convey risk and encourage local stakeholders to take action. Additionally, they will explore different tools that have been used to motivate individuals, community groups, and communities to better prepare for disasters.
