National Initiatives: Public-Private Partnerships

Mon. 4:00-5:30 p.m., Interlocken B

The idea that emergency management objectives can best be achieved through public-private partnerships has received increasing emphasis in recent years. The emphasis on public-private partnerships stems from several factors: an awareness that government, on its own, is unable to address the needs of disaster survivors and that non-governmental resources are required; recognition that the nation’s critical infrastructure is overwhelmingly owned by non-governmental entities; and recognition that the government is unable to mandate the vast majority of the loss-reduction activities that must be undertaken to make the nation safer. This session will focus on research and practice in the area of public-private partnerships.
