Jose Sato is an architect, planner and disaster risk reduction expert born in Lima, Peru. He has conducted research at the Urban Disaster Prevention Laboratory of University of Tsukuba (Ibaraki-Japan) and received a Master of Engineering degree from Waseda University (Tokyo-Japan). Was invited to DRR training courses in Japan (JICA) and South Corea (NEMA). Obtained a certificate of specialization in Administration from ESAN University (Lima-Perú)

He is founder and currently President of the NGO PREDES (Center for Research and Disaster Prevention), where he does specialized consulting work on DDR (Predecan-CAN, IFRC, World Bank-WSP, Oxfam, CARE, among others).

He has worked in the Housing Sector (Inadur- Ministry of Housing) and with entities related to DRR: CISMID-National University of Engineering, Social Studies Network for the Prevention of Disasters in Latin America (La Red) - Intermediate Technology Development Group (ITDG), PAHO/WHO, IFRC, National Institute of Civil Defense. Consultant for evaluation and monitoring of cooperation projects (Japan Embassy, DIPECHO - European Commission).

Lecturer at the Master Program in Social Management of Catholic University of Peru and formerly Associate Professor at National University of Engineering (UNI, Lima-Peru).

His DRR experience began concerning the case of Metropolitan Lima, starting with a seismic protection plan and disaster prevention proposal (Inadur,1983; master thesis,1986) and more recently a seismic impact scenario for Lima-Callao (2009) and earthquake disaster preparedness and response activities in two Lima districts (2009-2012). Metropolitan level DRR is now his current concern.
