Youth and Disasters: Current Knowledge, Policy, and Practice
Sun. 1:30-3:00 p.m., Interlocken A
In October 2010, the U.S. National Commission on Children and Disasters identified gaps for children in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. As a result, the commission delivered more than 100 policy recommendations to President Obama and Congress. This panel will discuss ongoing challenges in research, legislation, and practice that impact emergency management policy and decision making at the school, community, state, and federal levels. It will also highlight current practices and future opportunities to reach youth audiences with clear, accurate and actionable information on disaster preparedness and mitigation.
