Going Green and Building Strong: Synergies and Tradeoffs

Wed. 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Centennial F

How will infrastructure, land use development, design, construction, and investment decisions affect resilience to climate change impacts? Ideally, all stakeholders understand the synergies between climate change mitigation and adaptation and know how to connect the dots so we can prepare for the consequences of climate change. However, in practice, there may be tradeoffs between sustainability and resilience, for example, building materials or practices that reduce energy consumption but increase vulnerability. This session will examine synergies but will not shy away from the trade-offs that must be considered to achieve the right environmental, economic, and social balance.
