Welcome to the 51st Annual Natural Hazards Workshop! We hope you’ll join us in Broomfield, Colorado at the Omni Interlocken Hotel, as we reunite with members of our hazards and disaster community.
About the Workshop: Since 1975, the Natural Hazards Center has hosted the Annual Natural Hazards Research and Applications Workshop in Colorado. Today, the Workshop brings together federal, state, and local mitigation and emergency management officials and planning professionals; representatives of nonprofit, private sector, and humanitarian organizations; hazards and disaster researchers; and others dedicated to alleviating the impacts of disasters.
Key Program Features:
1 Keynote. Our keynote speaker inspires attendees and sets the tone for the Workshop with a focus on this year’s theme, Stronger Together: Building Coalitions for Disaster Risk Reduction.
5 Plenary Sessions. These large group sessions draw together diverse panelists from the hazards policy, practice, and research communities to provide perspectives on topics related to the Workshop’s theme.
14 Concurrent Panels. Interact and engage with speakers as they share their work, exchange ideas, and provide actionable recommendations about pressing topics in the hazards and disasters field.
15 Research, Practice, and Policy Sessions. Discover new and ongoing research, practice, and policy findings in these highly collaborative sessions where audience feedback is key to reciprocal learning.
8 Networking Roundtables. Meet other Workshop attendees and join the broader conversation about a specific topic in these guided, yet informal, conversational sessions.
6 Training Sessions. Build your toolkit with these highly interactive, engaging sessions that focus on professional skill development and knowledge sharing on a specific topic.
3 Listening Sessions. Participants take center stage in these sessions, where facilitators provide brief information on federal policy updates or ongoing research before soliciting feedback to shape future progress.
5 TED-Style Talk Sessions. Novel, compelling, and evidence-based research and practice ideas are the focus of these topical sessions that include a series of 5-7 minute lightning talks and audience Q&A.
2 Poster Sessions. Grab a bite to eat and connect with our poster presenters about their programs, projects, or research during these evening sessions.
The Natural Hazards Workshop is also proud to support the Researchers Meeting and the Practitioners Meeting that will take place on June 17 and 18, 2026, immediately following the Workshop.
