Public-Private Partnerships for Disaster Resilience: Challenges and Opportunities

Wed. 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Centennial E

Facing constrained resources, governments at all levels are increasingly reaching out to engage the resources and capabilities of the private sector for every phase of the disaster management cycle. Likewise, many private employers, businesses, academia, and other non-governmental and civic organizations understand the potential benefits of working with government. Yet despite growing interest and anecdotal successes, there are numerous legal, regulatory, and cultural impediments to effective public-private collaboration. A diverse panel representing the perspectives of federal and local agencies, large and small businesses, non-government service providers and successful resilience-focused partnerships will explore the challenges and opportunities of public-private collaboration, best practices, success stories, and policy changes that could address barriers or provide incentives.
