Mellie Torres
Mellie Torres (she, her, ella) is a practitioner, program evaluator, and applied researcher that works at the nexus of research, practice, and policy with and for systematically and structurally excluded communities. She has a range of experiences in strategic learning, program evaluation, and applied research using a Latinx culturally responsive and equity-informed lens to support and advance racial equity and social impact. Mellie has a PhD in teaching and learning from New York University, graduate degrees from Montclair State University (mathematics education) and the University of Michigan (public policy), and an undergraduate degree from Seton Hall University (mathematics). Before doctoral studies, Mellie is a proud Newark native, a product of Newark Public Schools, a former high school math teacher in Newark, and worked in small business lending in the South Side of Chicago with South Shore Bank.
