Natural Hazards Center director, Lori Peek, was the keynote speaker for the 2019 McDonald-Mehta Lecture Series at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Peek gave a talk titled “Convergence: Coming Together to Advance Hazards and Disaster Research.” The lecture was attended by engineers as well as social scientists and atmospheric scientists. While on campus, Peek also had the chance to meet with other hazards researchers and to visit the world-class research facilities at the National Wind Institute.

The McDonald-Mehta Lecture Series is named after and funded with the endowment of Dr. Kishor C. Mehta and Dr. James R. McDonald, founding faculty members of the former Wind Science and Engineering Research Center (WiSE), now National Wind Institute (NWI), at Texas Tech. The lecture series invites nationally-known scientists and experts in wind-related industries to speak about ongoing research around the world.
